The power grid is being upgraded – Comrod is increasing capacity to cover increased demand

Large parts of the power grid face significant upgrades and capacity expansions. The grid companies are now accelerating the rate of investments, and the authorities are simultaneously speeding up the approval processes. In Sweden, it is said that “the electricity grid should grow so that it cracks” – and that is now felt on both sides of the keel!

Comrod produces composite masts for the regional and distribution grids from two factories in Europe – at Tau in Norway, and at Tierp in Sweden. To meet the growing demand from the markets in the Nordics and Europe, the capacity in both factories is now being expanded with extra shifts.

– We manufacture the masts in state-of-the-art production facilities in Norway and Sweden. This gives us flexibility and short delivery times, which more and more customers value. We are now experiencing a sharp increase in demand from the markets in the Nordics and Europe, and are therefore increasing production capacity with extra shifts, – says Atle Hovland Berg, director of Comrod Utility Systems.

More and more customers see the value of Comrod’s unique method for rock foundations. The drilling rigs are flown in by helicopter, and the poles are dropped into the borehole and secured. No blasting or other major interventions in nature. By flying in the equipment, there is no need to build construction roads in nature. The foundation can withstand very heavy loads, and the strength of the composite masts is utilized to the maximum – longer distances between the poles, fewer poles and less need for cross bracing and guy wires.

There is also a large demand for “short bottom modules” for use with traditional foundations in loose masses. This gives a big advantage as a mast point can then be completed in one process, and then the opportunity to land a pole directly on the foundation – i.e. without guy wiring and straightening/wedging. It’s simply “plug and play”.

– We are also strengthening our capacity for foundations. Alongside our own teams, we collaborate with contractors in the industry. It is important for us to be able to react quickly and flexibly, and deliver in line with the customers’ needs, assures Hovland Berg. – We are now “firing on all cylinders” to supply the power industry with masts and foundation solutions!

Welcome to visit!

We always appreciate visits – if you are interested in visiting our factories in Tau or Tierp, just get in touch. We can then tell you more about composite as a material for power masts, show the production, demonstrate rock foundations, and much more! Warm welcome!
